Business Club Connects Faith with NYC’s Finance World

Last month, 13 members of the Gordon College Business Club and its faculty advisor, Alexander Lowry, executive director of  Gordon’s Graduate Financial Analysis Program, made its annual trip to visit with prominent financial firms in New York City.

The two-day trip included stops at Deloitte, BNP Paribas, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs and others. Students heard from seasoned veterans of the corporate world as well as recent Gordon graduates on how their careers brought them into major financial companies. Each meeting gave students a better vision for the opportunities in finance and what they require. Students also received résumé advice, interview tips and numerous LinkedIn connections.

Perhaps most inspiring for the students was witnessing the integration of competitive business and explicit faith. They attended morning devotions at the New Canaan Society, joined President Lindsay for a Bible reading at Archegos Capital, followed by hosting Gordon’s first Finance and Faith Forum in Manhattan.

The students shared their city journey with those back home through a social media takeover of Gordon’s Instagram account. They included stories of each company visited and plenty of skyscraper window shots. The Business Club looks ahead to its Chicago trip in spring 2019. Until then, students are inspired to move forward, building their résumés, growing their networks and applying for internships.
