Celebrating the Faithful Leaders of Gordon’s Past, Present and Future
Looking out over Boston Harbor, 450 Gordon alumni, family and friends joined in the final celebration of our 125th anniversary year at the Celebration of Faithful Leadership last night—bringing to a close an important year of reflection, thanksgiving and ambition.
The evening featured several guest speakers and performers—including creative interpretations of biblical truths by performance poet Shawn Welcome, stunning depictions of A. J. Gordon and the crucified Christ by world-renowned performance painter David Garibaldi, and masterful music by Gordon’s own Dr. Sarita Kwok (accompanied by Christina Chao). Keynote speaker New York Times columnist David Brooks captured the essence of legacy virtues, and Gordon students Stephanie Antonucci ’16 and Danny Bizumuremyi ’17 offered their own inspiring, authentic testimonies.
Mike Ullman III was honored as the recipient of the 4th Annual George F. Bennett Leadership Award. On stage, he spoke candidly with President Lindsay about the successes and private trials associated with leading five world-class corporations (most recently J. C. Penney). Eight sage words from this great leader stuck with the crowd: “Love your audience. Do your homework. Be yourself.”
Thanks to the generosity of our guests and sponsors, nearly $1 million was raised through this event; proceeds will fund scholarships and help offset the burden of educational debt.
